<p>Istilah yatim berasal dari saduran bahasa Arab, yang artinya adalah seorang anak dalam usia belum baligh telah ditinggal wafat oleh ayahnya. Sedangkan piatu adalah seorang anak yang belum baligh telah ditinggal oleh ibunya.</p>
<p>Sedangkan yatim piatu adalah gabungan dari keduanya, yakni seorang anak dalam usia yang belum balig telah ditinggal kedua orang tuanya.</p>
<p>Sekarang sudah paham dan mengetahui kan bagaimana perbedaan yatim dan piatu. Lalu apakah kita diwajibkan untuk menyantuni mereka?</p>

<p>Anak yatim dan piatu sudah selayaknya untuk mendapatkan perlakuan yang istimewa. Karena ia dididik dan dinafkahi secara tidak lengkap. Islam pun mengatur kedudukan mereka. Terdapat juga anjuran tentang anak yatim yang tertulis di Al-Quran. Bahkan Rasulullah pun pernah bersabda Aku dan orang yang menanggung anak yatim (kedudukannya) di Surga seperti ini.” Diiringi sebuah isyarat acungan jari telunjuk dan jari tengah yang berhimpitan.
